Integration with Other Disciplines

Pharmacology is a true basic biomedical science. However, it is unique in that the discipline of pharmacology truly interfaces with many other disciplines. Pharmacologic concepts and content are important to all healthcare professionals as they care for patients and clients, whether they prescribe pharmacotherapeutic agents or not.  This is true because all patients come to their healthcare professional as a composite of who they are, what they eat, and what they take, whether the drugs are proprietary, over-the-counter, and/or illicit.  Healthcare providers, by their interactions with their patients and clients, may alter how those drugs affect the person.  Therefore, an appropriate level of knowledge of pharmacology is important in all healthcare disciplines. Our consultants will guide acquisition of knowledge in a discipline specific manner for the benefit of students, practitioners, and patients. Students will be appraised of their specific knowledge base and they will be given an appreciation of the knowledge base of other healthcare professionals with whom they might interact.
