Assessment is an integral part of any educational program.  Healthcare students must be assessed to assure their knowledge in all relevant arenas, including their fundamental knowledge of science relevant to their discipline, as well as the professionalism, communication skills, and compassion needed to serve their patients/clients appropriately. These areas are not always easily or appropriately assessed by standard assessment methods, such as multiple choice examinations. Issues of assessment will be addressed that will allow development of the best methods of assessment for your institution to use in assessing the knowledge and skills of your students in a manner that best suits your program.
